Keeping Experiences Enriching
FLC is moving toward Project-Based Learning! What does this mean? It means the learners are tasked with questions in the beginning that will lead them toward projects that could take up the majority of the year. The projects might be to grow vegetables, put on a play, support the community by meeting a need or solving a problem and consider being an entrepreneur and where that process might lead them. Art and Spanish enrichment classes will still be provided.

Making FLC "Homey" for Full-time Homeschoolers
Beginning in January 2024, FLC welcomes full-time homeschoolers. If you would like your children to join us, bring the preferred curriculum of choice, and we’ll help your child with their learning as needed. The children who attend need to be fairly independent and an intake form will be given to make sure we can accomodate them. The beloved Literature Class will become a “Lit Club” for our full-time homeschoolers.

Lil' Sprouts (aren't so little)
The 3-6 year old “sprouts” are budding and blooming! This class is learning to communicate, cooperate, collaborate, care, be mindful and grow in their knowledge of academics and God’s word within a play-based, nature-based setting. They enjoy the Abeka, Forest School and Montessori curriculums. She also works with them one-on-one with their reading skills. Join them!

* How Great Thou Art * (Ages 6-14) Monday
In the art class, students learn about American artists, listen to a Bible story and merge the two by choosing a biblical subject (or their own subject) and mimicking the artist’s style or the method. Students use a variety of media from crayons to clay! *Students will be split into cohorts of ages 6-9 and 10-14.
-
*Project Based Learning* (Ages 6-9) Thursday
Students will attempt 3 projects that answer these questions: How do we grow a garden that helps our community? How do we design a restaurant that serves nutritious food? How can doing STEM experiments help me better understand math and science?
Planning a garden will help them learn about seeds, the supplies needed and grow in their responsibility of growing plants. Knowing that the crops will nourish our community brings an awareness of others and grows maturity. Taking care of living things builds a sense of responsibility.
Students will design a restaurant and learn how the chef decides his mission, menu and will learn how to make the meals including their nutrional aspects. Your child might come home with food to share!
Students will learn about recyclable materials and how they can be used in engineering and physics experiments and activities that will engage their mathematical and scientific minds.

*Project Based Learning* (Ages 10-14)Tuesday
Students will attempt 3 projects that answer these questions: How do we plan and grow a garden that serves our community? How do we put on a play? How can we plan for a successful business?
The older students will consider where to plant a garden, the cost involved, what seeds to plant near other seeds, and how to protect and nurture the plants. Finally, they’ll find a way to share the crop with the community. This project will carry over into the summer and fall of 2025.
Students will consider several beloved children’s books and work together to adapt it into a play which includes writing the script, choosing costumes, props, memorizing lines and performing it for a small audience.
Students will explore what it means to be an entrepreneur. They will brainstorm business ideas, come up with a plan, learn how to make digital graphics, market their business and set up a pop-up shop.
-
* Spanish * (Ages 9-14) Wednesday
In the fall of 2024, students will begin Spanish level 2. Students enjoyed the FLIP FLOP Level 1 last year so we’ll be flipping into level 2 next fall!

*Elementary Bible Class* (Ages 5-9) Tuesday
This class will begin in the book of Genesis and will go chronologically through the Bible (it will take more than this season). The goal is for the children to understand the stories in the Bible as a connected whole, and to see how they are woven together in God’s great story. The main goals are:
*teach the major events in the Bible in an age-appropriate way
*focus on applying and connecting the lessons learned from the Bible to our everyday lives.
*deepen your child’s knowledge and faith in God and his/her relationship with Him.
*memorize the books of the Bible to song and learn how to navigate the Bible and look up verses.
Each week will begin with review time and then the lesson and group discussion/application. After the lesson will be a variety of activities like games, coloring pages and crafts to reinforce the lesson.
